Blencathra via Scales Tarn – Approx 4 hours
Take the wooden steps at the back of the pub up onto the fell and walk up the steep path through the field. Once you reach the top path take a right and follow the path along the fence. As the path forks take the left path and start your ascent of Scales Fell.
Continue to follow the path, Scales Tarn will be on your right. This is where you can see the Legendary Sharp Edge, a grade one scramble.
Keep following the path upwards to the summit of Blencathra, where you will see spectacular views right across the valley. You can either go back down the same way or extend your loop, by walking across the ridge or ahead along to Mungrisedale Common.
This is the easiest way to reach the summit, if you’re up for a challenge there are numerous routes to the summit, there’s something for all abilities.
